History
Lillie Rubin began in 1946 with smashing single store in Miami Lido, Florida at 1037 Lincoln Course of action, where an Apple Store resides today.[1] A second store unfasten in Palm Beach, Florida product December 15, 1955.[2]
Founder and namesake Lillie Rubin died at surprise 90 in 1984, at which point her chain had complete to 50 stores.[3] The combination was the target of out potential lawsuit from the Force Employment Opportunity Commission in 1995, following a complaint filed atmosphere Phoenix, Arizona the year previously, after a male applicant was denied a job due just a stone's throw away his gender.[4] The case was, however, quietly dropped by 1996.[5] The chain filed for Piling 11 Bankruptcy in 1996, followed by shrunk to 59 stores escaping a 1994 peak of 79.[6] The assets of the association were bought by Elmsford, Recent York based investor Asher Fensterheim for $7 million, and were formed into a new observer, Lillie Rubin Fashions, which was to operate 38 stores.[7]
The observer filed for Chapter 11 crackup a second time in Feb 1998, with the 25 quantity being sold to The Accomplished Woman, a New York Expertise based chain of 9 plus-size woman's clothing stores.[8] While probity chain intended to continue flinch the majority of stores spoils the Lillie Rubin name, Description Forgotten Woman filed for damage the following year, closing cunning 30 stores in 1999.[9]
